General Cigar Co. and its flagship Macanudo brand will be sponsoring The Golf Channel's hit reality television series "Big Break," a show where 12 contestants go up against each other in golf-related challenges to ultimately win an exemption to compete in either the LPGA Tour at the 2013 Lorena Ochoa Invitational or on the PGA Tour at the 2013 OHL Classic. The Macanudo brand will be featured prominently throughout the series.
Going on its 19th season, the upcoming "Big Break Mexico" was shot at IberoStar Playa Paraiso Golf and Spa Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and will incorporate the distinct Macanudo cigar insignias and crests throughout the show's episodes. According to General Cigar, the Macanudo logo appears many times during the 11-week run of "Big Break Mexico," including on the greens during the skills challenges as well as in the Macanudo oceanfront lounge, a luxurious space featured several times this season.
"Whether on the course or at the 19th hole, bonding with friends through golf often includes the enjoyment of a fine cigar," said Alan Willner, vice president of marketing for General. "Aligning Macanudo to ‘Big Break,' Golf Channel's longest running original series, brings this long-standing tradition of camaraderie to life in a breakthrough way."
The show premiers on May 13. General's Club Macanudo in New York City will be hosting a cigar-smoking cast party and advanced screening on May 2.
